Did you know that the incredible Red Mangrove, is also known as "the walking trees"? These incredible plants can be found both inland or along the coastline and extending into the seas, and they're famous for their many entangled long prop roots with small white nodes on them that help excrete the salt.
But that's not all - the Red Mangrove also has five green leaves, one yellow leaf, and beautiful yellow flowers that, when pollinated, produce a long oblong fruit known as a propagule. And when these propagules ripen and fall into the water, they produce a new plant!
Not only do these roots act as a barrier to protect the land from storms and floods, but they also serve as a haven for many animals to protect and raise their young. It's fascinating to learn about the many ways that humans have found to use this incredible plant. In fact, did you know that the Red Mangrove can be used to make red dye and even furniture? How cool is that?
