I just wanted to remind you of something super cool I learned recently. Did you know that the Black Mangroves are found in the shallow water behind the Red Mangroves? Their roots look like black pencils that stick out from the mud, and they even have these awesome nodes on them called pneumatophores that help them excrete excess salt! How cool is that?!
What's even cooler is that these woody shrubs can grow up to over 30 feet tall in some places, and they play a crucial role in our ecosystem by preventing oil spills and pollution from harming our land. Plus, they have beautiful silvery green leaves and produce white flowers with tear-drop-shaped seeds in the spring and summer. Oh, and by the way, did you know that Black Mangroves have been used by humans for making black dye? How neat is that!
